At Bayswater Primary School children work mostly in cooperative groups. 
From P- 2 the competencies listed below refer to children’s ability to do these things either individually or with the assistance of their peers. 
At level three we believe that while the children are still working in cooperative groups,  they should begin to demonstrate individual mastery.

Students on a particular level will demonstrate mastery of the preceding levels.

Level 1

 

Opens files, saves to network folders.
Prints to network printers
Puts simple text into
prepared files.
Introduce two hands on the keyboard.
Creates pictures using drawing tools and stamps. Can modify a stamp. Creates projects using drawing tools,
inserting sounds and text, with assistance. 
Can find information
on CD-ROMs,
using simple navigation tools.
Can open an email
message and can respond with assistance.
Can enter and access a prepared database.
Students are able to browse a fixed database.
Can access bookmarked pages, can use simple navigation keys and can follow links on pages. Finds keys.
Level 2 Inputs and saves data to file Keys text, edits using cut and paste and spelling tool.  Paints and edits pictures.
Inserts graphics with assistance.
Can make links between pages.
Adds movies and graphics to a page.
Make clear connections between the project and links.
Begins to have the audience in mind when creating a presentation.
Composes and sends messages with assistance. Enter and access information and present in a variety of ways. Can enter a URL and bookmark the site. Uses two hands.

Can toggle between multiple opened programs/files and deletes files.
Creates folders on the network to import or save files.

Edits for

Uses menu options to edit work.
Introduce touch typing.

Can animate graphics. Resize images. Can develop a multilayer project using linking tools such as buttons and hypertext and import media from other sources. Begin to create a non linear presentation. Creates and sends
messages with
attachments.
Accesses,
edits and
sorts data. 
Introduce simple formulas in spreadsheets.
Locates information using a search.
Can use a search engine to seek information in response to tasks. Downloads media. Participates in formal keyboard training.
Level 4

creates directories

Refinment of word processing skills. Alter and manipulate images imported from other sources Refinement of authoring skills presented in a polished, finished product.  Final projects should be logical and intuitive, enabling the user to browse and explore easily. Creates nicknames and lists. Refines formulas and
search criteria.
Refines searching skills. Able to locate home keys without looking. Uses correct fingering.
