ONLINE COLLABORATIVE
MENTORING PROJECT

Over the last seven years I have been very fortunate to have worked at
Bayswater Primary, a Navigator school for Learning Technologies. I
was given the opportunity to teach Physical Education,
Library, Gifted Education and a number of senior grades
using a range of software, hardware and peripheral
technologies. The pedagogy and programs Bayswater
developed became part of professional development programs delivered
to teachers from across Victoria and the world. One professional development program that Bayswater developed in partnership with Ocean Grove Primary titled 'Online Collaborative Mentoring' has since become the innovation for the Schools for Innovation and Excellence Knox North West cluster of which I am now the educator. Online Collaborative Mentoring involves students, teachers and
administrators
from two school communities working together to improve educational
outcomes identified in school charters. Participants work in
collaborative partnerships for sustained periods to design, implement,
monitor and evaluate projects, using information communication
technologies such as video conferencing, email, distribution
lists and WebPages. The challenge that lies in front of the cluster is to implement the Online Collaborative Mentoring process effectively and use the projects to begin bridging the transitional divide, creating a community that is fully engaged in the learning process. A numeracy/science project that brings together students, teachers, community and business experts, robots, dominos and video conferencing facilities in a program that will be implemented in 2003 and we look forward to many innovative projects being created during the Schools for Innovation and Excellence project as well as the development of an Online Collaborative Mentoring manual for other school communities to utilise.
