On the 21st March, 2007, Bayswater Primary School had the unique privilege of hosting a Primary Puppet Day held on the International Day of Puppetry.
It was wonderful to be given the opportunity by the Goethe Institut and the AGTV, who generously sponsored the day's activities.
We welcomed over 500 Grade 5/6 students learning German, their teachers and others from a variety of settings including both the Government and Private School sectors in the Eastern Region of Melbourne.
The Grade 5/6 students enjoyed a puppet performance of "Die Drei Kleinen Schweinchen" performed by the MANA Puppet group from Queensland and a group of Grade 3/4 students participated in puppet making workshops run by Helen Scrutton from Puppet Adventures in Daylesford.
It was the first time for such an event for  Primary Schools teaching German!

The cooperation and team work from the wonderful Bayswater P.S. parent team and staff ensured that close to 500 'Leckeres Lunches', (frankfurts in a roll with Sauerkraut, Senf and sauce) as well as nearly 400 'Brezeln' were sold on the day.

Whilst the students were enjoying their lunch, entertainment was provided by the 'Leierkastenmann' (barrel organ man) who not only played traditional German tunes but had students and teachers dancing to the Chicken Dance.
There was a special guest appearance by Schnappi, who sang his famous song and had both students and adults chanting "schni, schna, schnappi" at every opportunity.

The Primary Puppet Day at Bayswater Primary School was a huge success.
