Kids Cooking with Calculations & Chemistry KC3 Project

We would like to invite you and your class to undertake an exciting learning adventure using food and cookery to study the key learning areas of maths and science as well as other important areas of the curriculum.  Our aim with this project is to engage all students, especially boys in the Middle Years in hands on activities that cross curriculum areas in interesting ways, promotes group work, sharing of ideas, thinking skills and embeds ICT into the learning process.

You are most welcome to work online using email or videoconference with any other class involved in the project sharing recipe ideas and the learning that is taking place in your classroom.  Feel free to make contact yourself with teachers you wish to work with in other schools or speak to Peter deWacht and he can help arrange the partnership.  A project distribution list will also keep you up to date on the development of the project.  Otherwise you may wish to prepare stand-alone lessons that use food and cookery to compliment your classroom lessons using the following guidelines.

 The Recipe will:

It is important that we are sharing ideas during the Australian Government Quality Teacher Project AGQTP project to continue building our online learning community.  Each time you and your class complete an activity please use the KC3 webpage template to detail the recipe, ingredients, budget, shopping list, method, maths, science and group work that was involved.  Three digital photographs are also required which show the completed recipe, the maths principle and the science principle investigated.

To help you prepare these cookery activities the KC3 website has links to recipes, maths, science, ICT and thinking curriculum sites as well as online experts who can help you along the way with ideas and suggestions.  A coordinator in your school will be available to discuss the budget and procedure for ordering groceries as well as technical resources to support your work. There will be a multicultural cooking event during the last week of March 2004 to celebrate the conclusion of the project.

Good luck and thanks for being a part of the Kids Cooking with Calculations and Chemistry KC3 Australian Government Quality Teacher Project.
