300g butter / softened

2 cups castor sugar

2 eggs

1 1/2 cups cocoa

2 cups S R flour.

 

 

 

 

 

 

250 g SR Flour $0.40

250 g Castor Sugar $0.80 cents

300 g Butter $0.40 

1 1/2 cups cocoa $3.60

2 eggs $0.50

Nuts $2.00 - (18 nuts)

Icing Sugar $0.30

Total Cost $8.00

  1. Wash hands and wash lemons thoroughly.  

  2. Preheat oven to 180 C.

  3. Place butter and sugar in a bowl and beat until fluffy.

  4. Add cocoa and eggs & flour and mix until combined. Spoon mixture into 18 non stick muffin patty pans.

  5. Sprinkle shaved chocolate over the top of muffins.

  6. Place in oven and bake for 10 - 12 minutes.

  7. They are cooked when firm on top and soft in the centre.

  8. Some had nuts placed on top in a drop of icing.

  9. Other were inverted and sprinkled with icing sugar.

  10. Serves 10.

COOKING WITH SCIENCE

 

What did you learn about maths and what principle did you  investigate? 

  • Mixing flour, butter, eggs.

  • Dissolving icing sugar in hot water.

  • Changes in substances during cooking. (Endothermatic  reaction)

  • Changes during cooling. The cake got firmer, icing firmed as it cooled.

  • The cake rose as it cooked.

  • Use of detergent to change the surface tension as it cleans.
