2 cups of plain flour 1 tbs baking powder 2 medium golden delicious apples, cored, peeled, chopped. 125 grams butter, melted and cooled. 2 eggs, lightly whisked. 2 lemons - rinds finely grated. 1 cup caster sugar. 125 mls fresh lemon juice. 1/4 cup of natural yoghurt.

2 cups of plain flour - 40c 1 tbs baking powder - 50c 2 medium golden delicious apples - $1. 125 grams butter - 50c. 2 eggs - 50c. 2 lemons - $2.00 1 cup caster sugar - 35c. 1/4 cup of natural yoghurt - 30c. Total Cost = $5.55 Cost per muffin = 50c. |
1. Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees centigrade. You will need 12 medium (125mls/1/2 cup) muffin pans. If you aren't using non-stick muffin pans, brush them lightly with the melted butter or margarine to grease. Alternatively, line the pans with paper muffin cases. 2 Sift together the plain flour, baking powder and lemon rind, into a large bowl. Add the caster sugar and apples and stir to combine. 3. Place the butter, eggs, yoghurt and lemon juice in a medium bowl and use a hand whisk to combine. 4. Add wet mixture to flour mixture and use a large wooden spoon to sitr until just combined. 5. Spoon the mixture evenly into the muffin pans. 6. Bake in pre-heated oven for 25 minutes or until golden, and cooked through when tested with a skewer. Remove from oven and stand for 2 - 3 minutes on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. |

COOKING WITH MATHS
We investigated the use of measurements in cooking and fractions when working out the budget of out materials
|
* When preparing the ingredients they had to be accurately measured, using cups, millilitres, grams and tablespoons. As well as knowledge of how many mls and g are in non decimalised measures. * When calculating the budget for this recipe a knowledge and application of common and decimal fractions was required. * As there were no alarms we had to have an understanding of the concept of time and how to measure the passing of it with an analogue clock.

COOKING WITH SCIENCE
We learnt we had to substitute ingredients of a similar type and the changes of matter of solid to liquid and liquid to solid, the time required for chemical reaction can vary depending on the chemicals and the environment. |
* The changing of matter from liquid to solid was witnessed in the baking process as the heat energy reacted with the combination of chemicals in the liquid mix. * The changing of solid to liquid was apparent in the melting of the butter. As the butter was heated and the molecules became more excited the molecules needed more room to move consequently breaking some of the bonds that held the material together as a solid. And I haven't really gone into it in detail!

By researching and being actively involved in the process of making the muffins we persevere through problem solving. We were in a deep level of thinking and we were working through multiple intelligences. |
Computer technology was used as a tool in research, communication and presentation. Group work we learnt as a team, but took on individual roles that worked with our strengths and maximised the output of the team towards the big picture of our final goal.
