Rice is Nice

On Friday the 19th of March, JFJ made fried rice.

In the morning we cooked the rice. For every cup of rice we added 2 cups of water. We measured 5 cups of rice and 10 cups of water into a big pot.

The rice sat on the bottom of the pot and there was a lot of water on top.

We cooked the rice for 25 minutes until all the water was absorbed. We observed that the rice was now soft and swollen and that all the water was gone.

The volume of the rice was now much greater.

Meg rinsed the rice and put it in the fridge to cool and dry.

After lunch we went back to the staffroom to cook the fried rice.

Mrs Flentge put some peanut oil into a large wok and frying pan and put them on the stove to heat.  We then divided the rice between the two pans. We all had turns to add the other ingredients.

We added yellow capsicum, bean sprouts, baby corn, snow peas and ham.  We fried the rice for about 15 minutes. Finally we added soy sauce and it was ready to eat.
Mr. Michelson and most of JFJ thought that the fried rice was very, very nice.
